Junglists, check out SampleScience’s free Reese bass plug-in, Gorilla Bass
Gorilla Bass and Gorilla Bass Pro lets you quickly dial in dirty Reese basslines
Canadian software developer SampleScience has become renowned for its ever-expanding catalogue of easy-to-use soft synths and virtual instruments. This time, they’re heading to the jungle with Gorilla Bass, designed to instantly give you gritty basslines for drum ‘n’ bass, garage, jungle and more.
The plug-in comes either as a free version with 15 sounds or as a Pro version, which boasts 34 sounds. The sounds are inspired by the iconic Reese bass found in classic jungle tracks, first heard in Kevin “Reese” Saunderson’s Just Want Another Chance. SampleScience says that each Reese Bass sound has been “created from scratch, mastered, and heavily processed to perfection”, warning us that each sound is seriously grungy and loud. In case you aren’t convinced, have a listen below.
Gorilla Bass’ GUI is presented in the same style as other SampleScience plug-ins, such as Vaporwave 2. You’ll have access to a Multi-LFO, a room reverb, high- and low-pass filter combo, amp envelope controls and the choice of three voice modes: polyphonic, monophonic and legato.
The plug-in is available in VST, VST3 and AU formats, for Windows and macOS High Sierra and Mojave, not Catalina and Big Sur – more on Big Sur compatibility here. Gorilla Bass Pro is available for $20, with the free version available as an instant download without any email signups.
